A rear open plan extension to a Hampden style bungalow. A free-standing dwelling, located in a heritage zone of the inner west of Sydney. Incorporating kitchen, dining and lounge, architecturally designed extension with a showcased polished concrete floor finish to compliment other design features of extension (cathedral ceilings, extensive glass featured). Underfloor heating was a consideration for flooring requirements. Builder was consulted on polished concrete flooring finish, therefore concrete specifications factored as well as additional time spent post concrete pour on grinding and polishing surface.
PENESEAL FHPS was used to cure, densify, dustproof, harden and permanently seal the concrete at time of placement. Several months later, once “lock-up” was achieved, contractor FCS was engaged to make good imperfect concrete levels, using diamond grade grinding pads. Owner builder in consultation with the local Penetron Australia representative, then applied PENESEAL FHPS to the leveled surface. The owner builder with the assistance of Penetron Australia, began the resin-pad polishing process. Hiring machinery from Kennards Hire Concrete Care, grades 100, 200 and 400 resin pads were used. Finally, to compliment the (multi-step grinding and polishing system), PENEGUARD was spray applied and worked in with a microfiber mop to create a water and stain resistant surface seal. A high-speed (1,500 rpm) burnishing machine was passed to generate heat of (90°F) 32°C or higher to allow PENEGUARD™ to fuse and bond to the substrate, thus creating the desired high-gloss sheen.

ZONE 1901 The Borough is an industrial development consisting of 53 factory warehouses. This unique two storey development provides high end finishes to both external and internal elements consisting of work pod style warehouses as well larger warehouse spaces with mezzanines. An extension to The Borough is the Industrial Quarter, a single level 27 warehouse unit complex.
Design:
Our Penetron products were specified into the project by structural engineers Henry & Hymas, designing the use of both Penetron Admix and Peneseal PRO to the exposed concrete on the suspended slab above office and warehouse space. In dialogue with waterproofing consultants, Waterproofing Integrity and the builder, we proposed a construction joint detail utilising both Penebar SW55 Type B swellable waterstop and Hydrostop CB200 cast-in PVC for all construction joints of the suspended slab.
Application:
We installed waterstops prior to the delivery of ready-mix concrete with Penetron Admix to site by Hymix. After initial cure, we identified some cracking. It was concluded that this was due to lateral restraint, the pull from both outside slabs. Fortunately, Penetron Admix was in the mix and the self-healing of the concrete began to take place. Once the build was near complete and the slab ready to be sealed.
The concrete was cleaned and prepared for our post pour application of Peneseal PRO. When sprayed onto a thoroughly cleansed concrete surface, Peneseal PRO will react with the concrete to form a sub-surface gel. This gel seals the pores, capillaries and cracks. As long as water is present, the product will remain active and seal future hairline cracks. Once the application was complete, the flooding process was undertaken. Where persistent leaks were identified, we treated them locally with a second dose of Peneseal PRO.
Additional products:
Our Penetron system was also used in the OSD tank utilising Penetron Admix and Penebar SW55 to construction joints. Industrial SL was used to remediate external concrete sections.
We treated the trafficable external driveways of the Industrial Quarter with Peneseal FH-PS to provide a long-standing abrasion and slip-resistant surface.
Result:
After initial apprehension to the potency of Peneseal PRO and our complete system, builders Trescon can testify to the power and performance of the Penetron system.
Testimonial:
“I have been using Penetron products & systems for many years. They have proved effective throughout this project. Particularly the Penetron Admix and Peneseal PRO combination to our suspended trafficable slab. Would definitely use again.”

Stevens Construction is synonymous with meticulous safety, proficient selection of materials, and excellent construction and quality control processes. As well as expertise from specialists in design, planning, engineering and construction management, every Stevens’ build features the hands-on skill of the working directors to create the hallmark of Stevens Construction – a high-quality, on-time build. With this in mind, negotiations started with Penetron Australia to provide a permanent, penetrating sealer to the concrete that will provide a long-term protected surface for the client.
Peneseal FH is a clear, reactive penetrating sealer designed to permanently protect, preserve and strengthen concrete and masonry building materials. PENESEAL FH penetrates deep into concrete surfaces and reacts with the elemental concrete ingredients to solidify them into a harder, denser, stronger concrete mass. Alkali salts and minerals are flushed out in the process, eliminating efflorescence and leaching, and increasing bonding of surface coatings.
Penetron Australia worked closely with Stevens Construction and applicators, Cut ‘n’ Seal, to co-ordinate the install of Peneseal FH on time and to specification.

The multi-story parking station for the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga, relieves a capacity bottle-neck. PENETRON technology was used to ensure a durable concrete structure and sealed, abrasion-resistant surfaces throughout the structure. The Sydney Adventist Hospital opened in 1903 as a Sanitarium to provide a place of healing. Since then, it has been affectionately known as the San. Now a world-class medical facility, the San offers comprehensive surgical, medical, and emergency services to more than 53,000 inpatients and 180,000 outpatients each year.
A key component of the San Hospital’s redevelopment project, the new multi-deck car park provides parking for almost 900 cars. The automated parking system also provides increased space for parking and enhanced on-site security for patients, visitors, doctors and staff.
“We’ve used the PENETRON System very successfully in a number of parking facilities,” notes Jozef Van Beeck, Director, PENETRON International Sales & Marketing. “It’s an optimal solution for both above- and below-ground designs, especially where there is any question of a high water table or exposure to the environment.”
“Our PENESEAL FH sealer penetrates deep into surfaces and reacts with the concrete ingredients to solidify them into a harder, denser, stronger concrete,” adds Mr. Van Beeck. “This gives the concrete a higher surface abrasion resistance and compressive strength, which can be particularly important during the construction phase.”
Areas Treated: Penetron Admix was used to treat all concrete used in the ground floor structure and the roof slab of the multi-floor parking garage to secure impermeability of the most exposed structural elements. Penebar SW45 waterstop was used to seal the resulting construction joints in the new concrete.
Peneseal FH, a clear, reactive penetrating sealer that permanently protects, preserves and strengthens concrete, was applied to all new concrete surfaces – a total area of over 20,000 m2 – for high durability.
